Ear Drumming [SWB9] |
Deleted |
This incisive book is a must for all percussion as well as general music fans (or in fact anyone interested in psychology/philosophy). Z'ev starts this book and attempts to explain his interests in many areas such as shamanism, trance and meditation and how these can be attained through music, and he uses his theories to explain how the human ear has a direct analogy with the drum and its human tradition. |

Forged From Dreams - The Sonorous Sculptures, Music and life of Welsh artist Steve Hubback [SWDVD01] |
|
This fascinating DVD tells the story of one of the UKs most innovative musicians, whose art evolved from musician into blacksmith, bronzesmith, and sound sculptor! Steve Hubbacks Sonorous Sculptures are both incredibly sonically pure, while also being harmonically rich, and the visual aesthetic has an indefinable organic magic and spirituality. This DVD covers all his work and development as an artist as well as a musician, and contains an interview with Hubback with Mark Curry, plus footage from Norway, Iceland, Denmark, England and Wales as well as performances from his European Group Metal Moves (featuring Tineke Noordhoek and Birgit Lokke) plus solo performances in England. |

Innovations in British Jazz(Vol1) [SWB1] |
|
After presenting some expository background information, (Chapter 1), it is with this earlier generation that the narrative begins. I960 was selected as a starting point, not only because this was the time of my first encounter with jazz as a teenager, but because it was around that time that British jazz emerged from the cocoon of respectful emulation with which it had wrapped itself out of a mistaken attitude of self-imposed second-bestness to the genuine article, which had to be American and, preferably, black. As it unfolds, the story will also reveal fascinating though little-discussed links with the early development of British rock music, and show how the new British jazz contributed to the shaping of the latter |

Ornette Coleman Music Always [SWB4] |
|
In this fascinating study of Ornette Coleman, Steve Day focuses his writing skills on one individual, the legendary alto saxophone player whose name is synonymous with the birth and development of "Free Jazz". Ornette Coleman changed the whole rationale behind jazz music. Leonard Bernstein called him a genius, Dizzy Gillespie once asked if he was serious. No player before or since has managed to split critical opinion so decisively. |

Steve Day |
Two Full Ears - Listening to Improvised Music [SWB2] |
|
Steve Days Two full Ears is not yet another introduction to Jazz. Instead, its pages are crammed both with the music itself and the process of the interaction between playing and listening. The book is a description of one mans passion for Jazz and improvised music written from the perspective of the listener. Steve Day writes with authority about a music that has been circling around his ears for over a couple of decades. Whilst there is plenty of attention to musical detail, the book sets out to record what it is like to really listen, backed up by 17 tracks on the free accompanying CD, that contains much of the actual music he refers to in the books 22 chapters. |
